Almost every company offers their employees PTO. But if we step back and take a look at all of the employees out there, what are they using their PTO for? Paid time off was intended to be used for vacation, personal time, family illness, or doctors’ appointments. More and more employees are using PTO for everything but vacation. As an employer, you may be thinking how your employees choose to spend their PTO is entirely up to them. However, it’s in your organizations best interest that you ensure your team is using their PTO for vacation.
Some employees use up all of their PTO because they become ill, their child becomes ill, or they need to take care of other personal matters. Before they know it, they’ve blown through all of their PTO time and they have no time for a vacation.
Why Vacation Time Is Important For Your Employees
A vacation increases productivity because employees lower stress levels and prevent burnout. We’ve all been there. We work so hard for so long that we are left with no more motivation. A small vacation can help gain that motivation back.
Additionally, vacation and relaxation is important for the human body. It gives the brain and body a break and can ultimately reduce anxiety, heart rate, and blood pressure levels.
When people think of vacation, they tend to think of islands, airplanes, and expenses. But a vacation is really time spent in a place that promotes relaxation.
